About Guruvayur Temple
Guruvayur Temple is dedicated to Guruvayurappan, worshipped as Lord Krishna in his child form, and is one of the most visited Vaishnavite shrines in South India. The presiding deity is a standing four-armed murti holding a conch, discus, mace, and lotus, carved from a dark stone known as Patala Anjana and dressed daily in silk and ornaments.
The temple's name is said to combine "Guru," the deity's teacher Brihaspati, and "Vayu," the wind god, both said to have installed the idol here according to local legend. The town that grew up around the shrine is organized around four gateways, or nadas, with the temple itself at the centre.

By Rail
